Strike stops Metro output
Production of the Austin Metro at Longbridge was at a standstill last night, with 200 assembly workers on strike and a further 750 laid off. The strikers arc protesting at attempts to reassign a small number of workers on the trim and final assembly line. A company spokesman said it was a routine manning re-assignment of a kind regularly undertaken.
