MG Car Club : 80 years old today!

The first meeting of the MG Car Club took place at the Roebuck Hotel near Stevenage on this day in 1930, with over 30 MGs and their owners coming together.

The MG Car Club is celebrating in style this weekend with 81 Worldwide MG Clubs confirmed for the historic MG80! event which starts on Friday 15th October. MG80! is the largest ever MG event and will celebrate the factory-formed club’s 80th Birthday in truly global style.

With thousands of enthusiasts taking part, MG80! is on course to be the largest worldwide classic car event in history. Indeed, with MG Car Club events now scheduled in New Zealand, Australia, China, South Africa, Europe, North America, Canada, Alaska and South America, the celebration will be truly global!

Events range from a race-meeting in Tasmania, a road-run in Argentina, a midnight Gymkhana in Auckland and a Dinner & Dance in Lincolnshire – with plenty of innovative meets planned throughout the World. However, perhaps most exciting is the news that MG factory workers in China will be staging an event to celebrate the MG Car Club’s special birthday.

We’re so very happy to be celebrating our eightieth birthday in such a tremendous way! This weekend will see tens of thousands of people enjoying their cars! The Worldwide response has been incredible and we’re hopeful that the sheer amount of people involved could mean the event becomes one of the largest Classic Car gatherings ever!” Julian White, General Manager, MG Car Club Limited
