Still around…

Hmmm… While I’m getting revved up about my SD1 project in Poland (thanks to those kind magazine editors who paid me yesterday), I should spare a thought for the other projects on the AROnline fleet – because, despite logic and good sense, they are still around, even if work continues slowly.

You can read the latest thrilling installment of the Tomcat story elsewhere – although, needless to say, I’m doing the bits that don’t need doing and procrastinating about those that do.

The 216GTi’s an interesting one… logic says this car should have been scrapped years ago but, thanks to the endeavours of Les Hedaux, Trevor Hallworth and myself (with more than a little help from Brian Gunn), it’s still looking remarkably well. I have changed some bits this week (and I’ll update the story shortly), throwing another couple of hundred quid at it in the process. That adds to the immense money that’s gone into it – that I know of – since 2004.

For a car that was given to me back then, it’s a remarkable – if slightly loony – story.

The white Tomcat Turbo that Trevor’s now restoring is coming on great guns, too. Many people wrote this car’s chances off as being hopeless back in January, but I can tell you that it’s rapidly heading towards good health and sound bodily condition. It just proves that, around here, we do really care.

How many, though, will be left once the scrappage money runs out? I shudder to think.
