I think it’s an integral part of my CV these days – ‘taking inappropriate cars on adventures across Europe.’ You’d think that, at my age, I’d have grown out of the desire to hoon about across the channel, seeking out places I’ve never been before, just for laughs. Well, I haven’t and I’m happy that I’m still like this. After a trio of Staples2Naples rallies, I decided it was time to try something new – and, after missing out on Calais2Casablanca last year, I thought I’d give CzechWrecks a go this time round.
“Why this one?” I hear you ask. Well, I love Central and Eastern Europe and, after briefly touching on Prague during a trip back from Poland in 2007, I realised I wanted to visit the Czech Republic once again and explore it properly. According to the official website, “This is an easy day as far as driving is concerned. We take the back roads of Bohemia into Prague. The drive is slow and steady through old towns. Oooooold towns. The roads prove interesting. Definitely different. Hey! Different can be good.”
Sounds good to me, so it was a case of job done.

FOR the first time ever, for me, I was sitting in a themed car with zero chance of returning to the UK – and, when Team Chaos pulled up into that Calais car park to join the fun, it was with a great big grin on my face. Dave had already mislaid his passport once […]
DAY One, then, had passed without any problems. Our Skoda rattled contentedly on, the motorway miles rolled by without drama and, this time, we were let into Switzerland without a hitch. Well, that final point isn’t entirely true, but that’s another story. The starting point in Interlaken, it has to be said, is truly beautiful. […]
BORMIO many have looked beautiful the previous evening thanks to those open wine cellars, the beautiful architecture and sociable people who knew how to drink without turning yobbish but the town took on a much more bizzare look the following morning. You see a tradition on all Street Safari events is that Day Three is […]
ANOTHER shortish but interesting day would see us drive from Austria and into the Czech Republic – and our challenge was a simple one: to take pictures of Trabants. We’d, of course, long since given up on the tasks but were looking forward to the drive, which took in Bavaria and rural Czech Republic – […]
In the end, we didn’t really need to do much to our Skoda – it was a case of dreaming up a theme for the car and throwing some paint on it. Due to holidays and other commitments, neither Andrew nor I were able to have a serious go at this until a few days […]
Keith Adams and Andrew Elphick with Felicity – one broken suspension turret cup hasn’t dissuaded them that they’re right to take this prime slice of Czech class… Smoking it to and from work for the following week or so threw up no further worries – yes, the camshaft is chattering away like a malcontent, the […]
LUCKY me again. A trip to the workshop to shuffle round some cars, and to escape the office proved a bit of a shocker. Having picked up the CzechWrecks Skoda from the Bauer car park, I cruised up the A1, wondering what the nice hot smell coming from my vents was. After a few miles […]
SO, there I was telling everyone that I was looking forward to Rover 800 ownership after a period in the wilderness. The car in question, offered to me gratis by sometime site contributor, Achim Kuepper, looked honest enough – and although he warned me that there was a fuel leak and a couple of other […]
I CAN see next weekend being one full of another Rover-related caper. You see, one of the delightful side-effects of running this website is the sheer number of free cars that get offered to me in the course of my day-to-day life. So when old friend, Achim Kuepper, got in touch saying that his recently […]
