A 1972 Mini 1000 has been entered on this year’s Peking to Paris Motor Challenge, as a last minute replacement for Paul and Chris Hartfield’s pre-war Packard, which wasn’t ready in time. Concerned for the Packard’s readiness in the lead-up to the event, Paul contacted Owen Turner from the Rover Centre for some advice. However, on seeing […]
On Saturday 9 July, a cavalcade of classic and modern cars will parade around Swindon’s unique Magic Roundabout. All these cars will have had their body panels pressed at the MINI Plant in Swindon, formerly known as Pressed Steel… Taking advantage of the roundabout being closed for routine maintenance, the parade will begin at around […]
We love our cars but we also adore the High Speed Train (HST), the iconic high speed train that’s just reached an incredible 40 years in public service – and is still going strong. Mike Humble travelled to Bristol and spoke to its stylist and designer, Sir Kenneth Grange, along with other key railway figures… Words: Mike Humble Photography: […]
Here at AROnline, we adore the HST. This year marks the 40th anniversary since the introduction of full revenue service of rail travel at more than two miles a minute. To celebrate HST-40, the St Philips Marsh depot, near Bristol Temple Meads, will be having an Open Day on 2 May, where you will be able to see these wonderful locomotive close up.
The 2016 Techno-Classica has opened for business. Over the weekend, around a quarter million visitors are expected to find their way into the halls. There is something for everyone with just a bit of petrol in their veins: car manufacturers present rarities from their collections, several large halls with trade stands for tools, automobilia and new or old spares, classic car dealers and last but not least the large display of car clubs.
The weekend of 5-6 March at Birmingham’s NEC is the 2016 Practical Classics Restoration Show, a jam packed cacophony of old gold with every type of make in every type of condition. The ethos of the event is ‘work in progress’, and although its not as big as the aforementioned classic motor show, it’s getting bigger and better every year.
MiniWorld Live promises to be even bigger and better than the debut event earlier this year, when it opens its doors on 10 July 2016. The initial event attracted hundreds of beautifully restored classics, modified performance cars and the UK’s leading Mini specialists and experts to Rockingham Motor Speedway. Thousands of Mini enthusiasts made their way to the Northants […]
Alexander Boucke The 2015 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show broke records by attracting more visitors than ever before – a little short of 69,000 attendees made it through the doors to Birmingham’s NEC, and enjoyed the final big show in the UK’s motoring calendar. There was a lot to see, with 2500 classic cars and motorcycles on display. Show highlights […]

Why would AROnline visit a Citroën meeting in the south of the Netherlands? Well, for one, we love cars – all of them. And the French certainly built some of the most interesting ones of all times. But the interested reader of these pages will certainly know that, as a consequence of Chrysler buying both […]
The 2015 season’s been great for the BMC>MG scene, with an increasing number of shows highlighting our wonderful cars. For the final show of the year, a great display was put on in Milton Keynes.
Once again Stanford Hall in Leicestershire hosted its big Mini show and AROnline was there. Although there were sporty and modified Minis on show, our pictures focus on the bread and butter models, that made up the bulk of the 5.5 million Minis made.
Mike Humble and Ian Edwards The 2015 BMC, BL and MG Rover Welsh Get Together is taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August, and the new (and bigger) home for the event is Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd. The venue is located just off the A470 and is approximately 10 miles north of Cardiff (Junction 32 of the M4). Two previous Welsh […]
After years of being talked down, it looks like the BMC/BL Rally was back with a bang in 2015. Although we didn’t grab the visitor numbers before leaving Ferry Meadows, it was clear that the show’s attendance was up on previous years, despite strong showings from upstart events like the Pride of Longbridge and the Gaydon BMC and BL Show.
Words: Keith Adams Photography: Tanya Field Hagerty’s innovative Festival of the Unexceptional returned for a second year, bringing together some of our favourite automotive winners and losers – a wonderful antidote to the usual high class fare associated with the term ‘concours’. But then, this is a concours d’ordinaire! For 2015, 50 cars were invited […]
Mike Humble Well, it’s here again – this year’s BMC/BL Rally and Spares Day will be held in Ferry Meadows, Nene Park, Peterborough on Sunday, 2 August 2015. Even though many pundits reckoned the event might fade as Pride of Longbridge amazingly gets bigger every year, there seems to be no evidence of that happening. New for this […]
Now in its third year, the BMC and Leyland Show, held at the spiritual home of all things classic ‘firm’, Gaydon, proved to be an absolute barnstormer in 2015. With more than 800 vehicles making it to the show, and even with a brief, torrential downpour halfway through, the show was an unreserved success – […]
Not just one, but two convoys will converge on this year’s BMC and Leyland Show at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, thanks to the organisers of the traditional (and much-loved) Cowley Convoy. The convoys are open to owners of any BMC/BL/ARG or associated vehicle and will depart from either Cowley or Longbridge at […]
Craig Cheetham A Triumph Dolomite SE with only 82 miles on the clock from new was the star attraction at the Classic Car Spectacular at Tatton Park in Cheshire last weekend. Show organiser Stuart Holmes, of Cheshire Auto Promotions, said: “The Dolomite is sensational – fresh out of the box. Seeing it at the show […]
