There is a saying in historical circles; It is impossible to analyse ancient history because there are too few sources, and impossible to analyse modern history as there are too many. Now, in place of ancient, read Rootes Group, and for modern, read BL. This is my problem. This website is one of many recording BL history and heritage, but there are hardly any with a decent coverage of Rootes-Chrysler UK. I know there are a few articles on here about Chrysler and that this is a site dedicated to BMC<MG products, but does anyone know any good Rootes-related sites to alleviate my curiosity, or is there a possibility of some research into some Rootes products as part of the site's 'The Rivals' section.

Good observation…Rootes Group do seem to be forgotten. I know of no website dedicated to them.

This is the place – a previous effort of one K Adams, and very informative it is too

Not a bad site.

However, you’re right about the dearth of ancient automotive history sources. I’d honestly prefer a bit more information about Rootes Group in the 1940s and 50s, back when the company was in good shape, before the Imp and the Chrysler takeover.

That isn’t ancient so much as medieval, though.

I would wonder if Peugeot UK had any archive material on it.

Personally I’d like to see some information about british-developed Vauxhalls, up until the late 70s, when everything became a re-badged Opel…

I would second that Simon, curious to find out what Vauxhall got up to in the 50′s,60′s and 70′s. I wonder if Vauxhalls archive at Luton is still up and running.

british-developed Vauxhalls

You mean they developed them? I thought they just threw them together. (joke)

It would be good to see some essays on the various non-BL operations. I mean as someone pointed out on another thread Honda has a fair well established operation at Swindon, well worth looking at the history of the site and the vehicles built there.

and of course Vauxhall/Bedford is another operation that was once of some size and was once one of the leading Truck manufacturers, even if they did start off building Chevrolets.

All the material that was on my old Rootes site is now on this site in the ‘Rivals’ section.

@ Dennis – you may mock, but the HB & HC Viva, and FD & FE Victor were once well selling, British made cars.
