Press Report : LDV help for its workers facing redundancy

Insolvent van maker LDV is to reopen its gates today – just three days after going bust – to help hundreds of workers try to cope with redundancy.

Public agencies from across the West Midlands are joining forces over the next two days to reopen the famous Washwood Heath factory site to provide one-to-one support and advice to more than 800 former staff. A total of 810 workers were made redundant on Monday after the company finally fell into administration following six months of a production standstill.

Advisers from Jobcentre Plus, Birmingham City Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers will be on site to offer advice on a variety of issues. Guidance on claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, housing benefits, council tax relief and other vital financial support will be available, along with one-to-one debt counselling sessions with trained experts.

Former LDV workers will also be given information about the tailored package of support that will be available to help them get back into work as quickly as possible. This will include help and advice with their jobsearch, CV writing, interview techniques, training and identified employment opportunities.

The on-site advice sessions will complement support already on offer through a special freephone advice line which is 08000 730 440, launched by the Taskforce on Tuesday.
