News : Silverstone Auctions goes Jaguar crazy
Silverstone Auctions has five classic Jaguars – ranging from the 1950s to the ’70s – consigned for its Race Retro and Classic Car Sale at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. They will line-up alongside a number of race and rally cars at the auction on 23 February, which is one of the highlights of the Race Retro weekend.
The oldest of the Jaguars at this year’s sale is a 1950 XK120 Roadster (below), estimated at £45,000-52,000, with one family ownership for 50 years. Presented as a highly collectable classic, it is a UK right hand drive car which retains the original engine and gearbox.
From 1956 is a XK140 Fixedhead Coupe SE, estimated at £58,000-65,000, that is ready for competition. Known as ‘The Vicar’s Car’ after it was raced by Reverend John Fellingham in the 1970s, it is a great chance to acquire a period car that is suitable to compete in many events.
Just two years younger is a 1958 XK150 Drophead Coupe, estimated at £55,000-65,000, and presented in Signal Red with cream leather interior and red carpets.
A 1960 Mk2 3.8 auto (above), described as a concours standard, and estimated at £60,000-70,000, comes complete with a series of upgrades including a modern automatic ZF gearbox, power steering, electronic ignition, electric radiator cooling fan, uprated brakes, air conditioning, plus front and rear parking sensors. It even has a modern hidden stereo system with iPod connection and other extras.
Moving forward a decade and from 1974 is an extremely rare, with two owners from new, XJ12L Series II, estimated at between £18,000 to £22,000. It shows just 7600 recorded miles.
