Automotive News China, 10th March, 2011

BEIJING  – SAIC Motor Corp. plans to start selling its first electric car in October 2012, the Xinhua news agency reported.

The three-door small car will be powered by an 18kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 47kW electric motor. It will take six hours for the car to get a full charge for its batteries.

It will have a range of more than 150 km at an average speed of 60 km per hour, reported the official news agency, citing company President Chen Hong.

The electric car will carry a price tag of 170,000 to 180,000 yuan ($25,800 to $27,300). However, with a sales subsidy of 80,000 yuan from the Central Government and the City of Shanghai, consumers will pay only 100,000 yuan to buy the car, Chen said.
