MINI’s rather unusual Superleggera Vision Concept, which was first unveiled at the world famous Concours d’Elegance at Villa d’Este last May, will make its UK debut during Salon Privé, which is being held at Syon House in London this week.
Handcrafted, with stretched aluminium panels, there’s no doubt at all that the fit and finish is exquisite, but we’re not sure it’s the minimalistic extreme that MINI’s design chief, Anders Warming, claims it to be.
“The MINI Superleggera Vision elegantly perpetuates what the Classic Mini started 55 years ago: reduction to the essentials,” he said. “Its energetic, minimalistic design embodies the dynamic essence of an automobile. At the same time it creates unique emotional beauty in combining the past and future of the automotive industry, i.e. traditional coachwork craftsmanship and modern design styling. It was a pleasure for me to design a concept like this.”
Fair enough – whichever way, on a personal level, AROnline adores the Union Jack taillights… but will it ever see production?

No. No. No.
Yes Yes Yes
(is it a Spitfire?)
Or Frogeye ?????
Would dump the rear-fin and make it a coupe.
A new “Sprite”?
Call it a Mini Sprite. Really like it and hope they make it
I agree.
If Scotland votes Yes will they feel the need to change the rear light design?
Forgoing the intended ‘association’ with the MINI brand, this is a stunning looking design concept. Perhaps it could form the basis of a new small Triumph sports car instead. 21st century Triumph Spitfire, anyone?
That ariel on top of the boot lid looks horrible.
Not sure that Alec Issigonis would recognise the similarities to his Mini.
Don’t like the facia but it would make a great Triumph – doubt BMW would call it a Spitfire though….
I was in a Mini showroom recently and the Union Jack roof decal on the wall was reproduced incorrectly – perhaps BMW should fix that…
To me this screams modern day Frogeye Sprite. A much better idea than the frankly rather pointless MINI Coupe and Roadster, which look far too similar the normal hatch and convertible
Yes: would make a great TRIUMPH if they made the face less “MINI-ish” & started to develop a distinctive “look” for the family which (hopefully) would follow!
Confirmed as going into production in 2018! Hope they keep the production car as true to the concept as possible.
