News : Jaguar’s new SUV teaser…

The first teaser images of Jaguar’s new SUV have been revealed, along with an announcement that the new model will create 1,300 jobs at the existing Land Rover plant in Solihull, where it and the new XE saloon will be produced.

The new Jaguar, which the brand refers to as a ‘performance crossover,’ will be badged as the Jaguar F-Pace.  It is expected to go on sale in 2016.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, commented: ‘We received such an overwhelmingly positive response to the C-X17 concept car last year that we just had to make it a reality.

‘The Jaguar F-Pace, inspired by the F-Type, represents a perfectly judged balance of performance, style and practicality. It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior. The F-Pace is our family sports car.”

The Jaguar F-Pace couples class-leading interior space and exceptional on-road dynamics with five-seat usability to produce a true performance crossover.  It will encapsulate everything that Jaguar stands for: beautiful design, precise handling, a supple ride, luxurious interior finishes and cutting-edge technology.

Speaking at the Detroit Auto Show, Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Global Sales Director, said: ‘In 2015 we will celebrate Jaguar’s 80th year. We have started it by announcing our first performance crossover which we consider to be the ultimate practical sports car – a car that builds on the marque’s founding ideals of Grace, Pace and Space to become one of the most innovative Jaguars we’ve ever developed. The F-Pace has now begun its engineering and development testing programme ahead of the new model going on sale in 2016.”

Jaguar Land Rover has also announced plans to create 1,300 new jobs at the existing Land Rover plant in Solihull, West Midlands. The company’s CEO, Dr. Ralf Speth, said: ‘Today’s announcements once again demonstrate our commitment to the UK and the advancement of a high-tech, high-skilled, manufacturing-led economy.

‘Jaguar Land Rover is committed to delivering more great products. It is that innovation and relentless quest for new technologies that sets our products apart. We want to offer customers greater choice, with even more exciting vehicles, crafted with that special British flair. We want to improve the quality of life for our customers and for our own employees, creating opportunities for more people to be part of the Jaguar Land Rover experience.”

Jaguar Land Rover has already invested £1.5bn to support the introduction of its new aluminium and lightweight technologies. The new facilities represent the largest single investment in the Solihull plant in its 70 year history. Incorporating Europe’s largest aluminium body shop and final assembly hall – collectively the size of 22 football pitches, the new state-of-the-art facilities bring the Jaguar brand to Solihull for the first time, and continues to showcase the company’s pioneering leadership in aluminium vehicle construction which dates back to 2003 with the introduction of the seventh generation Jaguar XJ.

  1. Er, how many jobs will be lost when Defender production stops? Is this really a nett increase of 1,300 jobs?

    • The Solihull workforce has increased significantly in recent years, I’m sure the Defender workforce will be gainfully employed, especially as there will be a replacement of sorts for it

  2. The concept looks great, I’m sure it will sell like hot cakes and I’d love to own one… but that name is awful!

  3. I love the colour – on the F-Pace and also the CX-17. I wish Jaguar Land Rover would offer it on some Land Rovers (i.e. Discovery 4) and Jaguar saloons. The sea of silver, white and black conformity afflicting our roads needs a healthy splash of these vibrant shades of blue!

    • Land Rover used to offer Bali Blue on Discos and Freelanders, it was a stunning colour quite similar to this one, just a bit darker. For whatever reason it didn’t seem to sell too well though and they stopped offering it. Shame really.

      • There was also Mauritius Blue offered on the Freelander in approximately 2008/9 (possibly the predecessor to Bali Blue) which was a bit like the MG Rover Group colour Ignition Blue pearlescent. Again, as with Bali Blue, it was a stunning colour with real personality, although it too did not sell well on these shores.

The only colour that currently comes near to the one on the F-Pace is Estoril Blue which is currently the preserve of the Range Rover Sport SVR.

        • An error on my part – the colour offered in 2008/9 on the Land Rover Freelander was not Mauritius Blue, but Martinique Blue.

  4. I’m expecting it to be selling like hot cakes for Jaguar, as the Cayenne does for Porsche.

Not keen on the idea of it being the F-Pace. F-Cross would probably be better. But if it sells well, I’m all for it and it’s good for UK plc.

  5. f-pace…what is that????? cant they come up with a more exiting name? Even CX19 sounds better. A nice idea though, take a Discovery 5 Sport change some things and call it a Jaguar…alex

  6. ryhmes with F— Face . Just shows how they @ JLR are starting to believe there own hype.
They need to seriously start looking at affordability of there product mix , who knows when the next GFC will hit !

    • But they have had their best years during this financial crisis. They are a premium brand, why would you waste money now developing – and selling at low margins – more “affordable” cars that would undermine your whole business model?

  7. Yuk.

Another derivative bloatmobile that will be used as a Chelsea tractor by yummy mummies. Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, VW Toerag, X5 etc etc. Could equally be a Kia/ Hyundai / Nissan.

Vomit inducing, bland cynical marketing. Will sell in droves.

  8. An other car which nobody needs, like 98 percent of all SUV´s!
I am living in a country with many high mountains and much snow in winter. The funny thing is, that nearly 85 percent of all SUV´s in my country will be registered in a town and not in the snowy countryside!
There the people will drive cars wich were made for frozen streets like Subarus with a symetrical 4WD and not such rubbish which only looks sylish in the showroom!

  9. Looks a little like a current Qashqai in profile – but nicer. I agree with David 3500, that blue colour looks great. My current car is Black, but it’s the first black car I’ve ever had… so just a change this time.
