Land Rover has today revealed a first look inside the soon-to-be launched Discovery Sport with the release of a short film showing glimpses of the cabin design. The bold new premium, compact SUV is the first member of the new Discovery family. Inspired by the Discovery Vision Concept, it features versatile 5+2 seating as standard in the UK.

In the film, viewers are shown around the new Discovery Sport’s interior as the camera glides through the cabin. The footage reveals details of the highly flexible class leading seating layout and shows desirable features including a full panoramic roof.

Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, said: ‘Versatility is a fundamental element of the Discovery family and with 5+2 seating, generous load space and configurable seating the new Discovery Sport truly deserves to wear the Discovery badge.”

  1. Diluting the brand like BMW has with 1,2,3,4,6.X and so on worries me a bit, sure they sell but BMW cars are ordinary now.

  2. Volvo must have sold 500,000 XC60s by now (Freelander sales over the same period barely half that), the 7 seat market is definitely the place they need to be. Could be a great car if its reliable.

    • On the 3rd May 2012, Land Rover announced that the 300,000th Freelander 2 had left the assembly line. Not bad considering it only went on sale in November 2006.

  3. As the owner of a 2012 Freelander 2 I’m keen to see this car, but I wish they’d just get on and launch it and ditch this fa*ting around with minor reveals like this….

The “panoramic roof” is not encouraging. The Evoque, that I drove recently, had one of those and I hated it. It’d could neither be opened, nor seen from the driver’s seat; the two prerequisites of a useful sun roof!

With the Evoque waaayy too “hairdresser” for my liking, I hope that the new Sport carries on the huge practicality and honesty of the current Freely 2, but I’m prepared for the worst.

  4. Why not give people the choice of 5 or 7 seats (which LR will do in Europe)? Those kamikaze seats in the boot take up valuable space.

  5. I am looking forward to seeing, driving and perhaps owning when I eventually replace my present SUV. Having previously owned 4 LR products in the last 10 years it would be good to return. Subject of course to sensible pricing and a reliable product.
