MINI UK has announced that Cooper SD versions of the Hatch, Convertible, Clubman and Countryman will hit UK showrooms next month following their launch at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Cooper SD features a 2.0 litre common-rail turbodiesel engine derived from MINI’s existing 1.6 litre diesel unit but which produces 141bhp and 225lb/ft between 1750rpm and 2700rpm. The new engine has an all-aluminum crankcase and a variable intake turbocharger in addition to the full suite of MINI’s MINIMALISM technology which includes Brake Energy Generation, Auto Start/Stop and Electric Power Steering.

The MINI Cooper SD Hatch delivers 65.7mpg on the EU cycle and emits 114g/km of CO2 but still reach 62mph in 8.1sec and a maximum speed of 134mph.The Cooper SD versions of the Clubman and Convertible hit 62mph in 8.6sec and 8.7sec whilst returning 64.2mpg and 62.8mpg on the EU cycle. CO2 emissions are slightly higher than those for the Hatch at 115g/km and 118k/gm respectively.

The front wheel drive Countryman Cooper SD reaches 62mph in 9.3sec – 0.1sec faster than the ALL4 derivative – and delivers 61.4mpg on the EU cycle. CO2 emissions for the two Countryman Cooper SDs are 122g/km and 130g/km respectively.

All Cooper SD models share the Cooper S’ larger front air intakes and bonnet scoop while all, bar the Convertible, also have a roof spoiler.

MINI Cooper SD prices start at £18,750.00 otr for the Hatch and rise to £23,190.00 otr for the Countryman ALL4 version.

About the Author:

Clive claims that his interest in the BMC>MG story dates back to his childhood in the 1960s when the family’s garage premises were leased to a tenant with an Austin agency. However, back in the 1920s and 1930s, his grandmother was one of the country’s first female Garage Proprietors so cars probably run in his genes! Admits to affairs with Alfa Romeos, but has more recently owned an 06/06 MG TF 135 and then a 15/64 MG3 Style… Clive, who was AROnline’s News Editor for nearly four years, stood down from that role in order to devote more time to various Motor Racing projects but still contributes articles on as regular basis as his other commitments permit.
