MINI United 2009 : 50th Anniversary models launched at global celebration
More than 25,000 people from 40 countries made the trip to a sunny Siverstone Racing Circuit during the recent Whit Bank Holiday weekend to mark the MINI brand’s 50th birthday with a three-day festival of cars, MINI Challenge racing and music from headline acts such as Paul Weller and Calvin Harris.
A reported 10,000 classic and new MINIs congregated at Silverstone and famous versions on display included the original cars from “The Italian Job” and “Austin Powers” films together with the model created by British Fashion Designer, Paul Smith, back in 1997.
MINI took the opportunity to unveal three new 50th Anniversary models: the MINI 50 Camden, MINI 50 Mayfair and MINI John Cooper Works World Championship 50. The first two models will both be on sale in the UK from September, 2009 for a period of one year and will be available in Cooper, Cooper D and Cooper S Hatch forms.
The MINI 50 Camden features a solid white roof combined with either White Silver, Midnight Black or Horizon Blue metallic paintwork with new White Shield 17in alloy wheels. The MINI 50 Camden’s prices are from £18,615 to £21,030 otr. The MINI 50 Mayfair will be available with Hot Chocolate or Midnight Black metallic paintwork and a white roof or Pepper White solid paintwork with a black roof and features unique 17in, 12 spoke, Infinity Stream alloy wheels while the interior has toffee-coloured leather seats. Prices for the MINI 50 Mayfair are from £18,415 to £21,280 otr.
The MINI John Cooper Works World Championship 50 model was conceived by John Cooper’s son, Mike, to commemorate the achievement of his his father, John Cooper’s, Cooper Car Company Limited in winning both the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship and Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship with Jack Brabham in 1959. This car will be produced in a limited run of just 250 models for sale solely in Europe. All 250 will be finished in John Cooper’s favoured Connaught Green and fitted with 17in Challenge cross-spoke alloys in Jet Black.
MINI has not, as yet, announced the price of the John Cooper Works World Championship 50 limited edition but AROnline readers can expect that to reflect the fact that the car’s standard equipment includes a Harmon-Kardon Hi-Fi system, DAB radio, full Bluetooth with USB audio, the MINI navigation system, Park Distance Control, Heated Front Seats and a Multi-function Steering Wheel…
