Jaguar XF picks up What Car? used car of the year awar

You’d think we’d be getting bored of the Jaguar XF’s unerring ability to pick up awards, but here we are, four years after its launch and well into the lifespan of the mid-term  facelift, and Britain’s best executive car continues to impress. And we love it on AROnline.

The XF emerged as winner of the Executive and Luxury category in the What Car? Used Car of the Year Awards 2011 – thus adding to a very long list of gongs. Commended by the judges as a ‘seriously desirable and sophisticated car’, the XF fought off strong competition in a highly competitive segment.

Chas Hallett, What Car?‘s editor-in-chief, said: ‘The Jaguar XF’s combination of sharp, contemporary styling, build quality, refinement, sporting agility and equipment is a winning formula, especially in the secondhand market where a highly specified model can now be bought for less than £20,000 in the UK.’

The seven-strong What Car? Used Car of the Year judging panel were from all areas of the motor industry including experts from What Car?. The judges picked the winners based on running costs, reliability, driveability, quality, longevity, safety features and desirability.

Andy Whyman, XF Chief Programme Engineer commented: ‘We worked tirelessly on the development of the XF for its introduction in 2008. Since then, over 38,000 have been sold in the UK and the momentum continues. To be recognised by What Car? means a great deal to the whole XF team and we’re delighted to add another award to our ever-growing tally.’

  1. My brother has a 2009 XF 2.7 TD. Lovely car. Keith says the XF is well into its mid term facelift but as the revised style car was only introduced a few months ago (?) surely it’s still fresh…

  2. errr, the mid life facelift is only a couple of months old and only started to appear in the September sales fully !!!!

    I wish!

In Denmark the cheapest model secondhand I can find is a 2008 2.7 Diesel with 60K Miles on the clock yours for £61,000

    • Early XF2.7d seem good value here in Germany at under 25k Euros, until one realises that (potentially lesser equipped) BMW 530d’s can be had for 15k Euros – I’m surprised the Jaguar is holding its value so well. Might be connected to the low numbers of new ones sold, making the used cars more desirable.

  4. The 5.0 V8 S went back last Monday, it will be missed. It’s been replaced with an ’11 model year 3.0 Diesel S. Whilst it doesn’t have the character of the V8, I’m struck by how refined it is.

  5. A used Jaguar thats worth buying is always going to be newsworthy. Thats because ALL pre-owned Cats previously were best avoided, despite their savage depreciation curve. Surely this is a first for the boys from Coventry and Castle Bromwich? Sir John Egan would be proud.

  6. I can’t decide: what do the LED lights resemble more? A white handlebar moustache, or a bull with a ring through its nose?
My semi-retired neighbour is rather taken with his metallic BRG S-type 2.7D, which does 36mpg.
