Land Rover has now issued more information about the Range Rover Evoque, which was first unveiled in July, ahead of the model’s public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month and the price of the three-door version will start at £30,000 in the UK.

The company said the Evoque will be the lightest and most fuel-efficient Range Rover. To improve fuel economy, the Evoque’s gasoline and diesel engines have direct injection and stop-start technology.

The Evoque will be offered with a choice of two 2.2-liter turbodiesels, with either 190 hp or 150 hp. The front-wheel-drive Evoque with the 150-hp engine has CO2 emissions of less than 130 grams per kilometer. The four-wheel-drive 150-hp variant has CO2 emissions of 145g/km. Land Rover did not give CO2 emissions data for the model’s only gasoline engine, a 240-hp, 2.0-liter unit.

‘The Range Rover Evoque helps to define a new segment for premium compact SUVs which are more sporting and stylish. It makes a strong statement about the future direction of the Range Rover brand,” Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said in a statement.

The Evoque will be Land Rover’s smallest vehicle and its first front-wheel-drive model when it goes on sale in Europe next summer and in the United States in late 2011.

The Evoque is 17 inches (432mm) shorter than the Range Rover Sport and uses a modified version of the Land Rover Freelander platform. The Evoque will be marketed as an upscale vehicle, hence the Range Rover nameplate.

Land Rover aims to attract more women and younger customers with the model. The company would like half of Evoque buyers to be female. A hybrid version of the Evoque is expected, although the timing is unknown.

The Evoque will be built at Jaguar Land Rover’s factory in Halewood, near Liverpool, England.
