Goodwood Motor Circuit, SAIC Motor and Anting ‘Auto City’ – home of SAIC vehicle production – signed a Memo of Understanding on the opening day of the recent 19th Goodwood Festival of Speed. The three parties have agreed to increase co-operation and a mutual understanding of car culture in order to further the development of the Chinese automotive consumer experience in what is now the world’s largest vehicle market by sales volume and aid the development of China’s increasingly mature automotive industry.

Mr Chen Zhixin, Executive Vice President of SAIC Motor, and Mrs Li Xue, the leader of Anting Council, signed the Memo of Understanding with Lord March to assure future plans to increase their partnership with Goodwood. The signing was witnessed by Chairman Hu Maoyuan, head of SAIC Group, and The Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China to the UK, His Excellency Mr Liu Xiaoming.

SAIC Motor is the owner of the iconic British MG Cars brand, a marque with a rich heritage which has enjoyed a long and close relationship with Goodwood. In the 1930s Lord March’s grandfather, Freddie March, the 9th Duke of Richmond, was a Works racing driver for the MG team, and won the prestigious Double 12 event at Brooklands 80 years ago in 1931. MGs competed in the very first post-War public motor race at the Goodwood circuit in September 1948, and continued to do so until the track’s initial closure in 1966.

More recently, MG Motor UK has participated in the Goodwood Moving Motor Show, with the new MG6 GT fastback making its public debut at the inaugural event in 2010. The company displayed and demonstrated both the MG6 GT and the new MG6 Magnette sports saloon at this year’s Festival of Speed. Goodwood is delighted to welcome MG Motor UK as a Festival of Speed partner.
