Jaguar : XJ75 Platinum Concept unveiled at Pebble Beach Concours

Jaguar unveiled the one-off Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept at last weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance as part of the margue’s 75th Anniversary celebrations.

The XJ75 Platinum Concept showcases the potential for customising the company’s new XJ luxury saloon and features ground-hugging front, rear and side sills, Satin Matte Pearlescent White paintwork, dark chrome and gloss black exterior trim and bespoke 22-inch alloys in black with a brushed contrast finish.

The interior features full Jet Softgrain leather, gloss pearlescent white air vents, veneers and diamond stitch suede inserts to the seats and headliner. The concept’s centre console houses a bespoke mechanical clock designed and developed by Jaguar in association with British watchmaker, Bremont Watch company.

The XJ75 Platinum Concept uses a 464 bhp, 424 lb.-ft version of Jaguar’s 5.0 Supercharged V8 but our colleagues at Autocar believe that the car paves the way for an upcoming XJ super-saloon with a power output which would exceed the 503 bhp produced by the same engine in the XFR, XKR and XJ Supersports.

However, according to Autocar, Jaguar are insisting that “there are no plans yet” for an XJR although Jaguar XJ Chief Designer, Giles Taylor, maintains that “the pure sporting character of XJ is brought to the fore by keeping the car’s clean graphic approach and further lowering its stance.”

AROnline readers can view Jaguar’s Vehicle Walk Around video on the XJ75 Platinum Concept below but, at the end, Chris Lilley, General Manager, Project Planning, Jaguar Cars Limited says: “We’ll take a good look at how the reaction goes and, if it all works out, we’d love to bring a concept like this to market as a limited edition.” We therefore also reckon that XJ75 Platinum Concept may well presage a new XJR model but time alone will tell…

  1. OK, the XJ looks really nice there… but I still don’t like those tail lights. They look like someone in factory put them on sideways (or endways) or someone slipped up with the mouse in the Design Office – I know they didn’t or couldn’t but that’s what it looks like. Anyway, other than that, this ghost looks lovely. It’s interesting really what colour does – for example, the Range Rover Sport looks great in black but the Discovery 3/4 look terrible in black.

  2. I guess sales to footballers aren’t what JLR were hoping for, so this must now entice them.

How to ruin a fantastic car…

  3. AWESOME!

This car is fantastic! The whole package is growing on me and this Jaguar is really starting to make sense. I think it’s already heading for modern classic status with it’s little quirks… including the rear lights – once you get your head around lights not having to be on one surface or even light shaped, then they make perfect styling sense!

  4. Crikey that’s awful. The white plastic inside looks like a Formica kitchen from 1960. I understand what they were trying to achieve and I suppose they have succeeded to an extent, but I still think it looks terrible. Not for me.
