In March 2001, Jaguar launched its most ambitious car to date, a new compact executive saloon to battle the BMW 3-Series, completing Jaguar’s three-tier saloon range. Its lineage was diverse, its design an engineer’s plaything, and wherever it went, it would stoke controversy. What follows is an insight into its engineering and design development, the ill fated derivatives, and the problems it faced up to its demise at the end of 2009.
