Land Rover has now released the first official images of the Range Rover Evoque 5-Door which will appear in public for the first time at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

Most of the Evoque 5-Doors’ dimensions are identical to those of the 3-Door version. However, the depth of the windscreen has been increased by 62mm and, while the roof panels are identical on both models, that on the 5-Door sits higher up and at a different angle – that model has 30mm more front headroom and 40mm more rear headroom. The 5-Door features three rear seats whereas the 3-Door has a 2+2 seating layout.

All Evoques will have MagneRide adjustable shock absorbers to improve on-road handling and will share the same engines: a 2.0 litre petrol turbo producing 237bhp and a pair of 2.2 litre turbodiesels with either 148bhp or 187bhp. The Evoque 5-Door will also be offered with two and four-wheel drive.

Both models will available with three trim levels: Dynamic, Prestige and Pure with the entry-level Dynamic having body-coloured lower panels as opposed to the black of the other two trims. Prices will start at £30,000 and both of the Halewood-built Evoques will go on sale simultaneously in more than 160 markets worldwide from next Summer.

  1. “MagneRide adjustable shock absorbers”, eh? Based on Victoria Beckham’s breasts, perhaps?

Oh, it’s a nice enough car – in a nouveau, urban, look-at-me sort of way – and, if it keeps the denizens of Halewood off the dole in these difficult times, then it would be churlish to criticise too much.

However, I’m sorry, Wayne Rover has joined Bentley in being a marque whose elegance and understatement has been sacrificed on the altar of bling.

  2. Yes, nice. I like that – it shows up MG and BMW again… Oh, and I really like that Nightfire Red-like colour. Alex.

  3. All I can say is pass me a skip – I need to throw up! The Evoque 5-Door doesn’t deserve to sully the Land Rover name! Vomit inducing… This will be seen in bodyshops across the land as a result of the high backend and poor rear visibility… Crunch, smash – JLR will make a fortune from replacement panels.

  4. I’ve never had much time for off-roaders or SUVs of any kind – until now. This is a fantastic looking car. JLR won’t be able to build them quick enough. All I can say to the dissenters on this page is thank God your not involved in product development. You’d be bust quicker than it takes to say British Leyland!

  5. Excellent – but I can’t help thinking that JLR will have to come up with a completely different brand identity to differentiate Land Rover from Range Rover. Land Rover should be more utility-based and Range Rover more luxury-based. We shall see…

At £30k, this small Range Rover is still a luxury product! Indeed, getting the next generations of Freelander and Discovery positioned in the market correctly will be the tricky thing.
