The car-like Land Rover Freelander was launched at the Frankfurt motor show in 1997, and immediately struck fear into the hearts of Suzuki and Honda...
However, it had not been plain sailing, and the Freelander's eight year gestation period bears testament to the indecision that Rover management had over the car. Thankfully, they saw sense, sanctioned the car and never looked back. Only an average reliability record has blighted the car's image, and even then, not significantly.
