NEC Classic motor show - pictures

Postby TobyV on Sun Nov 16, 2008 1:36 pm

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum now (all seems to have been reorganised since I was last a regular on here!) but I'm sure someone can move this if needs be...

Some pics from the NEC yesterday, mostly British:

Some effort went into the Delorean stand, the Datsun 240 is a stunner too!

I have a S800 in the loft - 1/10th scale tamiya alas but not much smaller :)

Any photos of the Morris Motors stand? They were supposed to be recreating the 1948 Motor show by all accounts!

I got a phone call on Thursday night at 10 o clock asking me if I'd take my MO up for the display stand as they'd been let down and I was the nearest person to the NEC.

The conversation went downhill when he let slip I was the thirtieth person he'd phoned though!

My cars definitely not show standard I know, but as I only live 30 minutes away from the NEC I'd have appreciated not being informed I was totally the last resort!

Great to see some BRM's at the show this year, and well done to Adam of theBRM.co.uk for organising it.

A severe lack of Wedges at this year’s show prompted myself and fellow Princess enthusiast Alex Sebbinger to visit the organisers office and book a stand for next year’s show. Having filled in the appropriate forms we were told that despite our early enthusiasm we may not be granted a stand if there isn’t enough space, to which I suggested that if the likes of Mercedes Benz, Jaguar and Volvo (to name a few) didn’t take up so much space for their corporate hospitality then there will be more room for the small clubs and their cars. I think I may well have blown my chances of a stand next year!

And don't you just hate stands with plastic plants and stands that are roped off or chained off. When I see that I guess it means 'keep off' rather than welcome, come and look at our cars.

Anyway, my favourite car at the show was the Plymouth Barracuda. I'm not a fan of American cars, but this was really special.

Kev.

In addition to Kev's comments I would like to suggest that if space is tight can they tell Messrs Clarkson, May and Hammond and the MAX POWER 'MPH' brigade to GO AWAY and come back another week. Theres 20 HALLS at the NEC for goodness sake! At a median figure of £15 a ticket, with a further £8 for parking plus the monies people spend on food and drink, plus they charge for the stands to exhibit, its a licence to print money and they should be a little bit more amenable to ENTHUSIASTS requesting a YEAR EARLY for a stand. The only stand I took an interest in Hall5 (MPH) was Rob's StreetSafari and from what he was saying they weren't treated that brilliantly either.

What a great day at NEC yesterday :-)

Some really nice British cars on display. Great to see R8s, Tomcats and R3 BRMs alongside the P4s, P5s and P6s. Just as it should be!

Did anyone visit the Citroen stand? I would envisage that the hatchback Light 15 must be the first car to have the modern configuration of FWD and a hatch.

Regards.

Well we put in an application for the stand, and we will see what happens wedge-wise. If we don't get a stand it will be a shame, as I emphasised in the application that Wedges are under-represented in the show at present...
