  1. Sublime…

BMW are certainly getting every niche they can out of this platform. It is a shame that BL/ARG were not as inventive or as bold with the original Mini.

  2. Are BMW admitting that the MINI is oversized? This brings back memories of a very rude running gag on The Goon Show about Hugh Jampton and the rhyming slang Hampton Wick…

  3. A bit of chicken wire from the local B&Q – £3
Some old paint and leather from the Rover 800 production line – £100
Chinese knock-off chrome strip from eBay – £15

Getting the gullible hairdressers to pay £2000 for the privilege… Priceless!

Check out the book that was a gift with the Mini 30 or the Haynes Restoration/Renovation manuals to see how many limited editions BL etc. made of the classic Mini.

Admittedly, not all were great but, in the context of that particular car, there were some boldly designed and well-crafted cars. The trouble is a lot came as the model was nearing the end of its natural life.

I have owned a Mini 25 and currently have a Mini 30, which is still revered as one of the best Mini special editions made, classic or BMW.

I think the book to which you are referring was written by Rob Golding and contains a lot of useful information about special edition and limited edition derivatives.

Incidentally, in September 2000, a comprehensive Press Pack was issued to motoring journalists containing a lot of facts and figures about 40 years of the Mini. I believe, from memory, that there had been no less than 28 such special/limited edition derivatives offered for sale in the home market alone.

…and goodness knows how many export-only, the Knightsbridge being the last.

I understand that some of the Paul Smith special editions have made it back to the UK from Japan and are apparently much desired.
