MG Rover parts specialist XPart has announced the winners of its recent competition to identify the country’s MG or Rover with the most interesting history. John Newey of Summit Garage and Kevin Hogan of Hogan Bros Car Sales were both awarded ultra-bright LED handlamps for their competition entries. Newey’s collection of MG V8s includes an MG ZT 400SE, an MG RV8 and an MG SV-R, while Hogan is the proud owner of a 1958 Austin A55 with over 700,000 miles on the clock.

‘Amongst the interesting entries we received, we were struck by the enthusiasm and passion of these two men, whose cars are both rare and in superb condition,” comments Barry Smith, UK Sales Manager, XPart. ‘The time and energy that they have spent in maintaining, modifying and caring for their cars is quite admirable. MG in particular is a brand that has inspired a great deal of devotion among owners.”

As you can see, I’m a real MG V8 enthusiast. I’m probably the only person in the world who owns three MG V8-engined cars and I love each and every one of them in their own way. I just need a MGB GT V8 now to make up the full set!” John Newey, XPart competition winner

John Newey’s MG SV-R is one of just 56 SV-R supercars to be built. It has a 5.0l V8 front mid-engine layout, and can reach 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds. The car’s top speed is 175 mph, although Newey claims that 207 mph was achieved at Italy’s Nardo Ring during testing. It was designed by acclaimed supercar designer Peter Stevens, whose work includes the McLaren F1 and Jaguar XJ220.

Built in December 2004, the car has a carbon fibre body and is British Racing Green with an Umbrian Tan leather interior. It was collected in person by Rowan Atkinson in January 2005 from MG Sport and Racing, and was used for a long-term road testing project with EVO Magazine. Newey purchased the car in October 2008.

‘As you can see, I’m a real MG V8 enthusiast,” says Newey. ‘I’m probably the only person in the world who owns three MG V8-engined cars and I love each and every one of them in their own way. I just need a MGB GT V8 now to make up the full set!”
