The Rover 800 was the high-technology replacement for the SD1, and marked an important change in the relationship between Honda and BL. Where once BL were producers of Honda products under licence, they were now collaborative partners in a joint project. The 800 was the result, and although it looked very different from the Honda Legend, the two cars shared much in the way of architecture.
