How can a day in the middle of summer be so cold and wet? When driving into Birmingham tonight after – again – battling heavy rain, we found temperatures dropping to values more suited to an autumn day than summer. At least it is dry, so there will be no fresh puddles of rainwater on the front mats next morning. We stretch our legs by doing a short walk on the banks of the old canals near Broad Street in Birmingham and leave the trusty Princess taking a well-earned rest in a side street.

Today started with a visit to Dr. Alex Moulton, the man behind the clever Hydrolastic suspension of our cars. Given his age of 92 years, it has to be rated highly that he took the time to host us at his home, ‘The Hall’ in Bradford-on-Avon. Some of us took the chance to have a copy of his book signed – only the author of this article could not remember where he put his copy… The visit finished with a close examination of Dr. Moulton’s collection of Hydrolastic prototype and development units.

The next stop was Abingdon, where the MG Car Club offered very welcome refreshments.

The Innocenti suffered from a problem with the charging system at this point. Otherwise all cars proved very reliable until now. Being slightly fussy, there is a new fault on the Princess to report: the wiper return is working intermittent now...

  1. Yep… those Dunlop Alloys look good on the green ADO16. I remember they were one of the first optional alloy wheels available.
