JAGUAR LAY OFF 800 WORKERS
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
COVENTRY, FEB. 14

Jaguars tonight laid off 800 of the 4,500 returning strikers because of “considerable dislocation caused by the stoppage, particularly in the supply departments”.

The 800 were stood off until next Monday. Another 300 might have to be laid off during Friday, the firm said. The Jaguar strike, which lasted a week, was over the firm’s refusal to dismiss two men who worked during the national one- day engineering stoppage on February 5.
