The unions are to seek state control of British Leyland when they meet Sir Don Ryder, the government adviser investigating the company later this week. Mr Bob Wright, Midland executive member of the AUEW, said they hoped to get a general statement about tie future ownership of the company, but the unions were not in conflict with the broad views of the Leyland shop stewards combine.

The stewards have drawn up a document calling for total nationalization, with workers directors occupying one third of the board and the rest of the seats going to government representatives and union approved management specialists. Mr Wright said after a meeting between union officials, and more than 400 Leyland stewards that their views would play a part in the preparation of the final submission to Sir Don.
