Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from AROnline

You know when you’re getting old when it feels like the gaps between Christmases get increasingly short. But I guess, in the case of the AROnline seasonal message, it’s probably because I’ve only been back in change of the site since August, and it all still feels new and (relatively) fresh. So, yes, it’s that time of year again, and we both look forward to a nice rest in the coming days and pause to reflect on the year we’ve just been through.

For AROnline, it’s been a good one. Craig Cheetham continued to look after the ship in his most capable and imitable way, while I found my feet editing Classic Car Weekly and launched the brand new magazine, Modern Classics. His Sheepskin Coates approach to AROnline was a breath of fresh air, and not just because here was someone who bought and sold more cars than me – and almost stuck exclusively to Brit stuff that he can write about here, as opposed to the weird French stuff I buy.

As well as Craig, we’ve had lots of help along the way – so when I came back in August (with the handover at the BMC/BL Rally and Spares Day in Peterborough – where else?) there was lots of fresh and exciting stories being uploaded on an alarmingly regular basis. Capable hands on the pump included my number two, and raconteur extraordinaire, Mike Humble, who continued to amuse, entertain and educate in his brilliant stories on the site.

Other people who make AROnline possible include Alexander Boucke, Ian Nicholls, Andrew Elphick, David Morgan and Steven Ward – without them we’d not have such a rich and wide set of articles to read. And, of course, as always, you guys for coming back and interacting with us (despite the distractions of Facebook, Twitter et al)… as without your interaction, feedback and continued reading, AROnline would be far weaker than it is!

I’ll be taking a few days’ rest from Christmas Eve, so the updates might slow down between then and New Year (I always say that, but end up not being able to stay away!), but rest assured, everyone involved with AROnline will be working double-hard to maintain the site’s position as one of the best car sites on the Interweb. In the meantime, in the next few days, I’ll be running some Best of… articles to keep you entertained during the festivities.

Once again, thank you for making this a brilliant year and giving your unstinting support. It’s been truly astonishing. And that leaves me simply to say – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the break, and here’s to a peacful 2016.

  1. A heartfelt thanks to all the team involved in making the site so interesting and informative. I’m already looking forward to a new year of barnfinds, prototypes and Mike’s tales. Best wishes to one and all.

  2. Merry Christmas to all at AR Online, and thanks for a great 2015 for keeping us informed and entertained.
Good to have the captain back at the helm but also a big thanks for Craig steering the good ship ARO and puting his own spin on things.
So here’s looking forward to what I’m sure will be a great 2016 from all contributors.

  3. Hard to believe it’s over 10 years since MG Rover folded and another Christmas is upon us. Thanks for another great year at aronline. Merry Christmas to Keith, Mike and everyone at aronline, plus the enthusiastic readers of course.

  4. Thanks to all the AROnline team for producing a consistently fascinating website that I regularly check in on. There’s always a curious slice of history or an honest appraisal of a current British model or marque that keeps me coming back for more.

One cheeky suggestion, the series of articles in which Mike expertly tells tales of slippery salesmen, dodgy mechanics and blown gaskets should be called ‘Humble’s Grumbles’!

    Happy Xmas all.

  5. Thank you Keith and Mike together with your team, you provide excellent entertainment and quality features. It’s a must do daily !!!

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to you all.

    Alan

  6. A very Happy New Year to the AROnline Community.

Over ten years on and I still visit the site several times each week! Even Christmas Day itself has before now seen an afternoon visit to older items!

It’s hard to believe that the end of MGR is now so long ago. Goodness, the times of Rover, Austin Rover really are history now.

I’ll doubtless keep on visiting in the years to come.

All the very best everyone !!

  7. Well thats it for another year.
I had Xmas lunch at my sisters, who forgot to make the bread sauce. To add to this we had cream instead of custard on the Xmas pudding.
    WOT NO CUSTARD!!!!
    It’s just not done!
I got gently sozzled on wine.
How did the rest of you get on?
Did any of you have a big family row? Did any of you want to put a relatives head in the oven instead of the turkey?
Did any of you have an interesting alternative to turkey?

  8. Ian, I do like your more realistic predictions for the day !!

As it turns out, mine was pretty calm, although far from the pretty picture painted by the retailers in the run up to Christmas Day – brought Dad from the care home for lunch (far from being an easy task!!) and it’ll be tomorrow before I see my daughter to give presents.

AROnline nearly got a visit in the afternoon !
