This weekend sees the traditional show season close at the NEC with the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, and AROnline will be there…

Our very own Craig Cheetham, Clive Goldthorp and Mike Humble will all be at the show at various points during the weekend and we’ll bring you a round-up of highlights once the curtains close, so of you can’t make it, we’ll be sure to feed your appetite with the best BMC, BL and Austin-Rover exhibits.

And there are sure to be many, as this year the organisers have put together a special Rover Village in Hall 17, while there are also some significant anniversaries to celebrate. 50 years of the Mini’s first Monte Carlo victory, 30 years of the Rover 200 SD3, 30 years of the Montego and 25 years of the Rover 200 R8 to name but a few.

Dedicated 'Rover Village' will be a sure highlight of the NEC Show

Be sure to look into the Maestro & Montego Owners Club’s stand on the Saturday morning at 11.00am to see Russ Swift cut the Montego 30th birthday cake – many of you will remember his stunt driving in the epic TV commercial for the Austin Montego filmed back in 1987. Staying on a TV theme, a collection of Minder motors will be on display including Arthur’s Daimler and Terry McCann’s Capri which is bound to be 24 carat… stand on me!

Getting there and parking is easy (M6 permitting!), with tickets starting from £18.50 when booked online. If you have never been before, the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show always throws up loads of interesting classic metal that appeals to everyone, with every taste catered for by the abundance of autojumble and trade stalls that will inevitably make your wallet that little bit lighter.

Let us know if you’re going, and feel free to send in your own show highlights, which we’ll include in the AROnline show round-up.

  1. I’m sure I’ll bump into a few people for a catch up that I only seem to see at this show, a long day but well worth it, see y’all there.

  2. The Rover Village has been a fantastic success. The Rover P6 Club’s ‘relaunch’ ceremony with Practical Classics went off brilliantly, and we’ve had oodles of interest in the incredible Zagato ‘Rover TCZ’ concept car, which has broken cover for the first time in decades http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/concepts/concepts-and-prototypes/carrozzeria-designs-zagato/.
The full story on this and more in Driving Force, the magazine of the Rover P6 Club. Find out more at http://www.p6club.com

  3. That picture of the green P6 with exterior spare wheel looks great… just like a Corgi model I have. Bound to be a good show!
