News : Bond shows off new themes for future Jaguars and Land Rovers?

The name’s Bond – James Bond. And I’ll be making sure the iconic Land Rover Defender goes out with a bang (oh, and what’s that Jag all about?)…

Could a production version of the CX-75 be in the offing?
Could a production version of the C-X75 be in the offing?

Jaguar Land Rover has announced its line-up of vehicles set to feature in SPECTRE, the twenty-fourth James Bond movie. The cars will include the Jaguar C-X75, Range Rover Sport SVR and Defender Big Foot, which have been produced especially for the film by Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations.

The Jaguar C-X75, which looks like a modern day successor to the legendary XJ220 and was first shown in a far more sober silver at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, will feature in a spectacular car chase sequence through Rome alongside the Aston Martin DB10, recalling a previous Jaguar v Aston Martin battle in the 2002 film Die Another Day. The C-X75 vehicles used in filming have been built in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering facility in Oxfordshire, England.

Scenes including the heavily-modified versions of Land Rover Defender and Range Rover Sport SVR have already been filmed in Austria. The Range Rover Sport SVR is the fastest and most powerful Land Rover ever. The highly capable Big Foots were constructed by Special Operations with huge 37-inch diameter off-road tyres to tackle the extreme terrain. They also feature bespoke suspension systems and enhanced body protection.

Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles have been involved in a succession of Bond films. Most recently, in 2012, the rugged Defender 110 Double Cab Pick Up was driven by field agent Eve Moneypenny in the opening sequence to Skyfall.

      • Didn’t like any of Pierce Brosnan’s Bond films, apart from perhaps Tomorrow Never Dies, which I felt had its good points. The Beemers just made it worse!

        • To be fair, Goldeneye I thought was a decent Bond film and return to form.

While the BMW Z3 was the official car, a DB5 featured heavily in Monaco.

The Z8 was a Corvette replica. The 7 series was a strange choice and just seemed to be a halfhearted “Give them whatever we have”.

While Die Another Day had Bond back in an Aston (and many associated Ford Motor Company of the day products such as Jags, RRs, Thunderbirds etc.) it was ruined by the premise of invisibility.

          • Yes Invisibility was Bond gone bonkers. Thank goodness they saved it with Casino Royale. All the recent bond films have been excellent with Craig. I hope the return of “Spectre” will continue this trend.

          • Die Another Day was the only Brosnan Bond film that I liked. An invisible car doesn’t seem that much more outlandish than some of the stuff in the Connery and Moore Bonds, it had a pretty decent sword fight and an entertaining baddie. What more do you want?!

        • But it was grey – isn’t anything other than grey a special order for BMW?! 😉

Didn’t BMW sponsor “50 Shades of Grey”? 🙂

I shall look forward to seeing all those nice JLR motors in the film….

  1. I’d love to see a C-X75 make production but I think JLR have other priorities. I think it’s more likely a publicity stunt… A good one, though.

  2. In Casino Royale, Ford provided a hand built “new Mondeo” before it had even entered production.

Shame Land Rover couldn’t/wouldn’t do the same and given us a glimpse of the Defender’s replacement.
