The MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept made its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the Electric Concept. There hasn’t been a Works GP version of the F56-generation MINI – does this mean that’s going to change?
This car is much wider than a regular MINI and sports an aero-inspired bodykit including a front splitter, rear diffuser and substantial rear wing. There’s also a roof scoop mounted on the flanks, which seems pointless, given where the engine is mounted.
The bumpers, wheels and even the headlights have red trim. The rear light clusters sport Union Jack motifs like other MINI concepts, including the Electric Concept. Smaller details include vinyl numbering ‘0059’ which denotes the year the original Mini was conceived – 1959.
MINI says this car isn’t heading for production but, given we’ve had two previous Works GP models, it’s an inevitability we’ll see a watered-down Works GP version of the third-generation MINI.

I think even most boy racers would be embarrassed to be seen in something like that.
Hints of the 2018 refresh?
should be on Barryboys.co.uk.
All the styling cues appear to be stolen from the (MID ENGINED) R5 Turbo evolution.
Not sure what John Cooper would think to his name being used on this!
