We love the Jaguar XKR-S at AROnline. It’s a British car that we can all be very proud of, both in terms of straight line performance (it’ll do 190mph derestricted) and handling – and will keep most supercars in sight no matter how tough the going gets. Obviously, it’s spent rather a lot of time at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe given Jaguar’s chassis development department based at the track – and it’s good that we get to see the new convertible being put through it’s paces there.

Forgive the terrible soundtrack and far too infrequent use of the onboard supercharged V8 soundtrack – and the fact we don’t get to see a full lap – and enjoy seeing this fine car in motion at the world’s most overrated test and development site.

  1. No “F-in” way it’s a poor Aston man car, gosh, love the engine noise, DO NOT suppress it above 4500 revs. If only I could win the lottery…. Ahhhhhh, another might be mine!!!

  2. British? They’re owned by Indians… :oP (jk)

It’s nice to see Jaguar being allowed to get on building proper sports cars and not being held back by Ford from making something better than an Aston! :o)

  3. The XKR was designed in Britain, developed in Britain, built in Britain. Its Engine is a British design and is manufactured in a British Ford plant. It is a British car through and through. The Indian parent company invest in JLR, but the product is British to the core. Amazed how thick some people are that they cant understand this!

Paul – I take it you didn’t see the smiley and (jk) for JOKE after Rob’s statement then????

  5. Aye, not enough of the V8 ‘tune’.. Despite it’s minor flaws, I truly love this car’s character.. It’s got a (snarly) soul and despite it’s volume car routes it still feels crafted. Anything Aston Martin can do, Jag can do better… And recent history has proven it.. Now for CX75.. The XJ13 reborn… Love Jag.

  6. doesnt the Aston Marton use the old XJS platform or have they moved on from that? Anyway good on Jaguar… great cars. And having owned and recently sold my xj40 4.0 I would really like a newer one (AJV8 maybe) if only it was a foot shorter. If money was no object I think i would probably buy a Jag over an AM simply because its going to be more reliable. alex

  7. Nice motor for Jaguar to be proud of. James Martin tested it in LIVE magazine – great performance but vey expensive! Goes with the territory I suppose…

  8. No need for the added music, the V8 sings rather well by itself.

I will never forget Martin Brundle in the XJ40 launch video.
“A sensible person would do 70 round this corner {on a closed track}, so I will do 115”.
Cue a massive, but perfectly controlled, tail slide.

  9. @ Stewart – that’s okay mate, flat cap, pipe and string-backed gloves are in the post… Honestly…

@Alex – they did on th DB7 but they’ve moved well away from that now. The most direct comparison would be DB7 to first generation XK. The DB7 used a supercharged verison of the XJSport engine (3.2 litre I-6) Jaguar then lanched with a V8. DB7 then came with a V12, Jaguar then launched the supercharged XKR. This generation of XKR more than matcheds Aston’s little V8 supercar but the XKR-S exceeds it. And now a CX75 is on the cards and is far more prettier than the One-77…. If only they could have used those amazing gas turbines…..

  10. Nurburgring isn’t over rated as a test facility. As a test facility it is awesome. Its a bit like the word awesome -its been cheapened by over use in the media. Its a shame James May made his point in the way he did – he’s absolutetly right about the way vehicle ride control is going of course but thats not the fault of the Nurburgring.

  11. Ha ha, well done Rob, I got it! Jag is most definitely a native of these shores, Tat-a just pay the bills, which they’re are welcome to.

Would one argue Lamborghini is Italian or German?
