The strike of engine assemblers at British Leyland, Longbridge, was entering its eighth week and had cost the company £15m worth of production, All Austin Morris 1800 and MGB sports car production was at a standstill.
At the group’s huge Cowley complex a two-day-old strike threatens even more widespread disruption. Body Production has stopped for Maxi and Marina models, Rover 2000 and 3500.
