MUMBAI (Reuters) – Jaguar Land Rover’s global sales rose 22 percent to 22,957 units in November, parent Tata Motors Limited said in a statement Wednesday.

Jaguar’s sales for the month rose 30 percent to 5,621 cars while Land Rover’s volume increased 20 percent to 17,336 SUVs. Helped by strong demand for the Jaguar XJ sedan and Land Rover Freelander, total JLR sales for the fiscal year starting April 1 are up 33 percent to 154,089 units. During the eight months from April to November, Jaguar’s sales climbed 22 percent to 38,620 while Land Rover’s jumped 37 percent to 115,469.

Through October, European sales of the XJ are up 145 percent to 2,781 units from 1,132 during the same period last year, data from market research JATO Dynamics shows. European sales of Land Rover’s top-selling Freelander increase 26 percent to 24,336 units, according to JATO. Luxury brands are rebounding from a terrible 2009 when government-backed scrapping incentives favoring small mass-market cars caused people to shun premium brands.

Clive Goldthorp

Clive claims that his interest in the BMC>MG story dates back to his childhood in the 1960s when the family’s garage premises were leased to a tenant with an Austin agency. However, back in the 1920s and 1930s, his grandmother was one of the country’s first female Garage Proprietors so cars probably run in his genes! Admits to affairs with Alfa Romeos, but has more recently owned an 06/06 MG TF 135 and then a 15/64 MG3 Style… Clive, who was AROnline’s News Editor for nearly four years, stood down from that role in order to devote more time to various Motor Racing projects but still contributes articles on as regular basis as his other commitments permit.
