British Leyland last night began recalling 2.800 men laid off at its Austin-Morris plant at Longbridge, Birmingham. The move followed yesterday’s decision by 300 tool-room workers to end a pay strike. The sudden end to the strike averted a shutdown of final assembly lines which have already been seriously interrupted by strikes during the past fortnight.
