All ready to go...

Part two:
The first day

Well today I left my friend’s house at about 9.40am (I should have really left at 9.00) so things were always gonna be a little pressed for catching the ferry at Dover.

Headed up the M5, down the A358 and then onto the A303 towards the M3, when I hit the M3, the GPS warned me the battery was nearly flat (as I still hadn’t rigged up a cigarette lighter socket) I didn’t really need the GPS, but I wanted to use it to keep a tally of the mileage, and I would need it on the other side of the channel.

I pulled into Fleet services on the M3 and quickly rigged something up using the brake level test switch and hey presto, power to the GPS.

As I pulled out of the services I saw a hitch hiker with a sign for Dover, and as I was heading that way I shouted ‘Jump in, I’m in a bit of a hurry’.

It turned out he was heading to Dover to meet his wife who was driving back from Germany so he could share the driving with her on the way home. Whilst talking we decided I could take him across the channel and eventually dropped him in the centre of Eindhoven before driving to my friend Erwin’s house in Meijel.
