In addition to the 5,000 workers being laid off today by Ford at Dagenham because of the shortage of disc brake systems, Rover, Jaguar, and Vauxhall may be in similar difficulties within a few days.
About 200 workers at the Rover plant at Solihull will be laid off for the day today because of a general component shortage ; the pause in production of the company’s 3.5-litre models will allow for a slight build-up of parts .
