If the unofficial strikes at the two Girling brake factories are not settled by the end of the week, thousands of workers in the British car industry will join the 8,000 who have already been laid off. Standard-Triumph of Coventry are existing on present stocks of brake assemblies but are reviewing the lay-off position everyday.
For the third day running 2,000 Jaguar workers at Coventry were idle.
