Events : Report – 42nd Antwerp Classic Salon

The Antwerp Classic Salon is one of the most important meeting points for Belgian Classic Car Clubs since 42 years. The show has been attracting about 30,000 visitors from Belgium and Netherlands mainly, but also from Germany and the UK over a three day weekend during the last years. The traditional event has a very even balance between club meeting area, car sales and autojumble. A full hall is dedicated to the clubs, who traditionally put much effort into their displays. Two major anniversaries where celebrated through joint efforts of clubs: The Citroën Centenary and the 60th anniversary of the Mini.

The organisers from S.I.H.A., the same company behind the hugely successful Techno Classica in Essen, are always putting on a stunning special display. This year the theme was set as “Lamborghini, la sensazione Italiana” and sensational it was indeed, showing every model produced by Automobili Lamborghini in the past, except for the Silhouette.

As early March already brought along spring-like temperatures, many visitors found their way into the halls, including quite a few taking their own classic along judging by the parking spaces surrounding the Antwerp Expo – including a couple of TR6s from the UK arriving open top. Spring also wets the appetite for buying a (new) classic, and even very early into the show quite a few interesting cars showed ‘sold’ signs. There was still plenty of choice offered from mostly local dealers – many of them showing affordable 50s to 80s cars. The unrestored and original car is the favoured choice this year. For a large choice of supercars and million-Euro investments – head elsewhere, for a good choice of down-to earth usable classics, a large club-display and a generally nice day out – head to Antwerp.

Alexander Boucke

Based in Aachen, Germany, Alexander has had BMC>ARG cars around him since birth - in fact his earliest childhood memories are from buying a new Landcrab with his family at the age of two. The new cars have aged to classic cars and a few more have joined the family fleet - most of them by now proper classics and many with Hydrolastic or Hydragas suspension.
