About 1,000 Jaguar workers at Coventry were laid off indefinitely yesterday after a walkout by 300 night staff at the Castle Bromwich paint shop, which supplies parts to Coventry, in protest at the ending of nightshifts. Jaguar said their jobs were not at risk and could be accommodated on the day shift. Company and unions will meet today in an effort to stop the dispute spreading.
