Mr Alec Issigonis’s New B.M.C. Post
FROM OUR MIDLAND CORRESPONDENT
BIRMINGHAM, Nov. 13

The name of the man who will head the British Motor Corporation’s new amalgamated design unit when it is formed in the New Year was disclosed today.
He is Mr Alec Issigonis, aged 55, chief engineer of B.M.C. since 1957, who has been appointed technical director of the company. One of his first tasks will be to superintend the amalgamation of the design units at Cowley and Longbridge. Next year B.M.C. design work will be centralized in Birmingham under his personal control. He rejects any suggestion that this increased centralization will tend to decrease the number of points of difference between B.M.C. models.
“I think the change will make everybody’s job much easier and we shall still be able to impart individuality to the various models ” he says.
“In fact we are going to make the differences bigger where we can”.
